About the Production:

ESP is excited to stage this beautiful and imaginative piece of storytelling for the first time in the DC region!

The challenges presented by this play are many: 10 actors performing over 80 characters; more than a dozen stories in 90 minutes; lovers transforming into birds, trees, and mist; an enormous sea battle; and did we mention the 1,000+ gallon pool of water on stage?

Metamorphoses is a modern adaptation of Ovid's thrilling Roman mythological stories, filled with lyrical dialogue, comedy, tragedy, and told through a mixture of acting, song, and dance!

Power. Passion. Despair. Sacrifice. Lust. Death. Redemption.

Myths take us to a world of dreams and desires. Where Love can be your salvation or damnation. Either way, you will be changed.

Produced by Theresa Bender
Directed by Evan Hoffmann

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: This production will take place in a large pool of water which all performers will be required to work in and around. This will also include total submergence in water for several cast members.

This production contains adult themes, which may require some cast members to perform in simulated intimate situations with one another. It also includes the possibility of brief male nudity, as well as other cast members performing in wet bathing suits and/or minimal clothing. All matters of this kind will be addressed carefully and respectfully both in rehearsal and performances.

Character Descriptions:

The cast of Metamorphoses will consist of an ensemble of 10 men and women playing over 80 roles from more than a dozen Roman myths. Throughout the various stories, each performer may be called upon to serve as lead characters, supporting players, chorus members, narrators, dancers, musicians, gods, audience, scenery, and janitors.
