WIT Production Team

Janet Bordeaux (Producer) Janet is delighted to be producing her third show for ESP and working with Gloria DuGan for the first time! Janet’s involvement with Northern Virginia Community Theater began with the Burke Centre Players (BCP) 19 years ago. Since then she has produced, stage managed, designed wigs, provided props, operated light and sound boards, and dressed sets and actors. Janet’s two previous productions at ESP were Side Show and The Musical of Musicals: The Musical! Both received WATCH Award nominations. Many thanks for the support of all our volunteers and audience members, and much love to John for his support and patience.

Gloria DuGan (Director) This is Gloria’s seventh show for The Elden Street Players; her previous directorial efforts were Passion, Doubt, Blood Brothers, Art, The Runner Stumbles, and All the King’s Men. Other recent shows she directed in this area were Scotland Road for LTA, Hauptmann for PCP, Evita for VTC, and Jekyll & Hyde for TAP. She is a former Foreign Service wife and happy to be home with the family, especially the grands.

Terri Carnahan (Stage Manager) Terri is delighted to be back working again with Gloria Dugan on WIT. Terri began her career with local theater 22 years ago working as crew on a show with Port City Players. Soon after, she was bitten by the “stage manager bug” and has gone on to stage manage over 25 shows. She just finished The Producers at TAP. Special thanks the cast and crew of WIT for allowing her to be a part of this wonderful show.

Arthur Rodger (Assistant Stage Manager) Last May Arthur celebrated fifty years in community theatre. He is very pleased to enter his fifty-first working with Gloria, Terri, Avery, Stan, Loraine and Mike again. He also welcomes the opportunity to work with some new faces. Arthur most recently co-stage managed Lady Windermere’s Fan” at LTA and will design make-up and ASM Cabaret for TAP in the fall. He last worked at ESP as stage manager and assistant director for Pippin in 2000.

Stan Harris (Lighting Design) Stan has worked with many area theater companies for over 20 years. This list includes VTC, SCT, DS, Hexagon and, of course, The Elden Street Players. Stan is a two-time recipient of a WATCH award for Sound Design for The Weir and The Mystery of Erma Vep and has received five WATCH nominations for sound design.

Michael Schlabach (Set Design, Master Carpenter, Set Painter) Michael is very happy to be back to work at ESP for Gloria. He has worked as Technical Director and Master Carpenter on many sets and done technical consulting and special effects development for other Washington area theater companies such as RCP and LTA. He most recently constructed the set for RCP’s artistically creative take on Shakespeare’s As You Like It in April. He is a multiple WATCH award nominee and was Technical Director on Elden Street’s 2006 Ruby Griffith 2nd Runner-up winner Invention of Love.

Judy Whelihan (Costume Design) Judy has been working in community theater for about 15 years. Her favorite shows at ESP include Greater Tuna and The Rocky Horror Show (both WATCH award winners for costumes), Blood Brothers, Three Tall Women, Accomplice (WATCH nominee for special effects), and Dinner with Friends. Other favorite shows include I Hate Hamlet (VTC), Kin, the Trial of Carrie Buck (Sundial) as well as 1776, Working, The Laramie Project, Mame, The Crucible, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Beauty and the Beast ,Bus Stop, The Full Monty and Curtains (WATCH nominee costumes) all at RCP. She has also costumed many of ESP’s Theater for Young Audiences productions.

Franklin Coleman (Lighting Designer) Franklin is delighted to be working with Gloria – one of his favorite directors – again. Their last show together was Passion here at ESP; and before that Hauptmann at PCP (Ruby Griffith winner). Also at ESP he designed the lighting for Copenhagen and Side Man, receiving two of his three WATCH awards for those shows. The third was for Beauty and the Beast at RTP. More recently he designed the lighting for Lady Windermere’s Fan at LTA, Lie With Me for Charter Theater, Red Herring for 1st Stage, and Live! Girls! Organize for New Galaxy Theatre as part of last summer’s Fringe Festival. Thank you to all the crew who made the lights look this good.

Avery Burns (Properties and Set Dressing) Avery Burns’ last properties and set decoration design for ESP was for Doubt, also directed by Gloria DuGan. She has designed (and been recognized for) props and set dressing (as well as makeup) for a number of other Northern Virginia regional theaters, including Signature Theatre and American Century Theater. She has enjoyed working for this production team on other shows. Researching and creating props challenges her, and is, usually, rewarding. She hopes you enjoy this performance and will continue to support regional theatre.

Sam Nystrom (Assistant Director) Sam is pleased to work on this production of Wit. He previously assistant directed Follies at TAP and performed at ESP in Metamorphoses and Passion. He was also recently in DS’s Reefer Madness and RCP’s Curtains in addition to appearing in shows with TAP, LTA, KAT, FP & RMT. Sam works in the Special Events Department of Washington National Opera. Thanks to Gloria for the opportunity and to the great cast for all their hard work.

Kat Brais (Hair and Make-up Design) (Bio not provided to website)

Janet Devine Smith (Assistant Properties and Set Dressing) Janet has been involved with the Elden Street Players since 1991 when she was asked two weeks before opening night to be in the chorus for Chess. Since then she has performed as Aldonza in Man of La Mancha, Baptista in The Taming of the Shrew, Jenny Diver in The Three Penny Opera, Mrs. Wickersly in Blood Brothers and the Narrator in Snow White. She is excited to be backstage at ESP for the first time with a fabulous crew.
