The beloved tale about a fisherman who catches a magic fish who can grant him anything he desires. The fisherman asks for better homes, clothes, and riches, hoping to make his wife happy, yet it appears that she will not be pleased no matter how much she receives.

Opening the 17th season, the Elden Street Players Theatre For Young Audiences will present The Fisherman and His Wife, written by Ruth Newton and produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. The show opens November 1, 2008 at the Industrial Strength Theatre in Herndon, Virginia and runs through November 16.

In approximately one hour of fun shared by cast and audience, this play presents the beloved tale of a fisherman who catches a magic fish, who can grant him anything he desires. The fisherman asks for better homes, clothes, and riches, hoping to make his wife happy, yet it appears that she will not be pleased no matter how much she receives.

The Fisherman and His Wife features a talented cast with Elliot Dondero-Pettit (No Exit, Leesburg Theatre Company; Children’s Hour, CCT); Jane Yurechko (Snow White, ESP); Brian Garrison (Fifth of July, CCT and bare-a pop opera, CCT with 2nd Flight Theatre Company); Betsy Eames (Sleeping Beauty, The Velveteen Rabbit, ESP); and Sue Klein (Once Upon a Clothesline, Puss and Boots, ESP). The Ensemble includes newcomer Annie Durkin, plus Richard Durkin (The Iceman Cometh, Snow White, ESP) and Faqir Qarghah (The Foreigner, CCT and The Closer, 2nd Flight Productions).

About the Director: John Shea is excited about this opportunity to direct his first show for the Elden Street Players Theatre for Young Audiences. He has appeared in many of the TYA plays over the years and feels inspired to put on the best show possible for his favorite audience. In addition to acting, John has done a lot of work in the technical crafts, especially for main stage productions. Among his credits are stage manager, sound designer, master carpenter, and assistant lighting designer.
